Lonely Avenue

Una figura excepcional de la música popular americana, Doc Pomus, fue el compositor de está canción. Popularizada por Ray Charles en el año 1956, ha estado versioneada por diferentes artistas, de los que os mostramos una selección. Por cierto, como curiosidad, en el mes de octubre de este año han hecho un cover Diana Krall y Mick Hucknall, el cantante de Simply Red, en sus respectivos nuevos discos, "Glag Rag Doll" y "American Soul", respectivamente. Una coincidencia, no.

Walk Between The Raindrops

Acaba de publicar un nuevo disco, titulado Sunken Condos, así que es una oportunidad para traer a este blog una canción original del excelente compositor y cantante Donald Fagen, excomponente de Steely Dan, titulada "Walk between the raindrops" que formaba parte de su primer disco en solitario allá por el año 1982. Esta canción fue escrita por el padre del cantante y pianista Davell Crawford, el recientemente fallecido James "Sugar Boy" Crawford, con el titulo original de Jock-A-Mo en el año 1953. Posteriormente las Dixie Cups popularizaron el tema, llegando a ser con el tiempo un himno del Mardi Gras de Nueva Orleans.

Esta canción, con música de Victor Young y letra de Edward Neyman, fue escrita en 1945 para la película del mismo nombre. Precisamente, el director David Lynch utilizó una versión de la misma interpretada por Ketty Lester, para su film "Blue Velvet" en 1986. A destacar las versiones de Alison Moyet y Cat Power.
